Exfoliate

Exfoliation is probably the least known skincare step to men and probably the one that holds the biggest benefits. Skin is a constant state of renewal, with the outer most layers dying and shedding, while deeper down fresh layers are being produced. Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells through chemicals, scrubbing with a gritty substance, or using an exfoliation tool, like a loofah sponge. Exfoliation speeds up the natural process of shedding dead skin cells, allowing newer fresher skin to surface. For some guys, the process of shedding dead skin is inefficent or the rate of dying skin cells is accelerated due to environmental factors like riding motorcycles with open-faced helmets or excessive sweating from working out. This can lead to dry, flaky, and uneven looking skin.

Exfoliating the entire face on a regular basis means putting your best face forward. With dead skin cells out of the way, cleansers are better able to remove dirt and oil and the skin is better able to the vitamins and nutrients in moisturizer.  Exfoliating before shaving also removes the dead skin at the base of the hair allowing for a much smoother shave and reduces the occurences of in-grown hairs. All in all, it's a win-win.

The SELF/ish line provides two effective means of exfoliating that, when used in conjunction, maximize the removal of dead skin and increase skin cell renewal. The Facial Scrub provides tangible grit that physically scrubs away dead skin with sustainable ivory palm seed powder. This is the best exfoliator to prep for shaving because the grit provides instant exfoliation and preps stubble for shaving.

Many of our other products contain our proprietary Active Acid Complex, a gentle daily-use blend of natural chemical exfoliants that rid the skin of dead skin cells from within for a fresh new look. Look for the Active Acid Complex logo under the "Healthy" menu on the product pages.

Cleanse

Cleansing is a pretty obvious step and one probably every guy does. If you're doing it with the same bar of soap that your wash your body with though, you're missing out. Bar soaps are not designed for the face and often contain ingredients and chemicals that can leave a residue and atually clog pores. Bar soaps also don't do a particularly good job of washing away the oil that is most commonly found only on the face.

A proper face wash does more than just wash away dirt. For one, binds with oil from the skin and washes it away, leaving pores clear to prevent the natural oil production for your skin's sebaceous glands from clogging and causing imperfections in the skin. Our Facial Cleanser also delivers our two proprietary complexes, the Active Acid Complex to aid in cell renewal, and our Vitamin Boost Complex, which gives your skin a dose of vitamins A, B, C, E and F for skin that’s conditioned, protected and ready for each day.

In addition to these powerful complexes, our Facial Cleanser uses aloe leaf juice to deliver hydration and anti-oxidants. And because exfoliation is so important, jojoba beads, plastic-free microspheres of jojoba esters that you can feel, work to gently exfoliate skin while natural citrus essential oils provide an invigorating aroma.

Moisturize

The simple skincare routine finishes with moisturizing. Don't skip this step! After you've scrubbed and cleansed your face, you want to replenish the hydration naturally lost through environmental factors like sun, wind, and dry office air. Because moisturizer is one of the few products that you leave on your face, it should be specially formulated to not only hydrate, but deliver the vitamins and nutrients that help keep it strong and looking young. In addition to our two proprietary complexes that deliver enhanced cell renewal and vital nutrients, our Oil-Free Moisturizer delivers maximum hydration through hyaluronic acid.
